Formed in 2002 by partners Paul Andrews and Bill Meeson, Oaktec is a engineering research and development partnership that focusses on energy efficient vehicle design.
Oaktec projects have included the construction and testing of prototypes a unique internal combustion engine concept and work with alternative fuels including bio-ethanol and propane and butane gas.
Since 2004 the companies focus has been towards the development of vehicle energy recovery technologies, and in particular the development of petrol electric Honda hybrids for motorsport.
Oaktec has worked in partnership with Energy Efficient Motorsport (EEMS) and Motorsport Development UK (MDUK) the UK Government initiative that seeks to secure the continued long term success of the UK Motorsport Industry and its sustainability through use of environmentally responsible technologies. Since 2007 Oaktec has benefitted from assistance from Honda UK.
In 2008/9 Oaktec entered a sponsorship partnership with Van Doorne's Transmissie BV, part of the Bosch Group, that will look at maximising the opportunities for competitive advantage provided by Continuously Variable Transmission.
Through participation in competitive motorsports Oaktec is now developing new technologies that will further exploit the potential of hybrid systems combined with CVT transmission in race and rally conditions and lead to significant benefits in perfomance, fuel efficiency and low emissions. Evolutions of this technology will be particularly suitable in low and medium volume markets and many niche vehicle applications outside of motorsport.
